The Parma farm first belonged to the Langeberg company, who produced tomatoes for tomato paste in the Hoedspruit and Malelane areas. In the early 50s, Langeberg bought an evaporator from the Rossi & Catelli Group who were situated in an area called Parma in Italy – an area that was known for their tomato production.
Our Logo
The Parma logo was inspired by a boiler which was used by Langeberg to generate steam for the turbines to generate electricity for the tomato paste factory in Hoedspruit. When Pottie Potgieter bought the farm from Langeberg in 1993, he added wheels to the boiler and made it his logo. The boiler now stands at the entrance of the Parma Nursery farm to honor its origins.
The Parma Story
After studying in USA, Pottie Potgieter started the Lutzville Nursery for Langeberg. Today this nursery is known as Parma Kwekery Lutzville.
Moved to Hoedspruit in the month of March.
In December, Pottie started the Hoedspruit Nursery for Langeberg for tomato productions in the Malelane and Hoedspruit areas.
Pottie and Desiree Potgieter bought the farm from Langeberg and continued with the nursery. They expanded the nursery to produce a wide variety of vegetable- as well as tobacco seedlings.
Desiree moved from I&J to help Pottie with the management of the nursery.
